A Season for Everything

Olivier Barbeau

There is a season for everything. Spring brings with it much needed change. It is a time of growth and renewal, and a time of new beginnings after the long and arduous winter.

Our beloved country finds itself in a very difficult position, with problems seemingly at every turn. The mood of negativity amongst ordinary citizens is palpable, and with good reason. Unemployment levels are dangerously high, our State-Owned Entities are burdened with crippling levels of debt, and violent crime (particularly against the most vulnerable amongst us) has reached levels that can at best be described as a national disaster. It is little wonder that business confidence is at levels last seen in the 1980’s.

If we are to restore our beautiful country, with all its promise and possibility, to its rightful place in the world, it is time for us all to stand up and be counted. We must embrace our fellow countrymen and women in a renewed spirit of brother and sisterhood. We need ethical leadership now. We need common sense and cool heads to prevail. Now is not the time to panic – it is too late for that.

Business is undoubtedly the key to our collective success as a nation. It is blindingly obvious that we need business to thrive if we are to achieve our collective ambitions because businesses create jobs, businesses build economies, businesses generate wealth, businesses innovate, and businesses pay taxes.

Earlier this month we launched our new brand across a global network of more than 30,000 dedicated people, in 112 countries and in more than 260 independent firms. We are a strong network and we deserve a brand which reflects this: modern, confident and professional. It is indeed fitting that our brand positioning is, ‘Helping you thrive in a changing world’.

These words capture what we provide to our clients and our community: a rock to rely upon in a business world defined by constant renewal, challenge and innovation. We are advisers who not only provide the support for enabling clients to flourish, but also the care to build strong, human relationships.

This positioning is not something we aspire to be. It is who we are. We bring this to life through our brand pillars: Access, Passion, Care and Community.

We accept that the path ahead of us is not an easy one, but we take inspiration from words of the poet, Robert Frost:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.

We are all at the crossroad.

At Moore we remain committed to helping you thrive in a changing world, locally, nationally and internationally. When you work with Moore, you’ll work with people who care deeply about your success and who have the drive and dedication to deliver results for you and your business.

Inspired by the words of the Late Hugh Masekela, frequently quoted by our State President, I say, “Thuma Mina” and business must say, “Thuma Mina” – Send me.
