In March/April 2015, Jeff Blackbeard received a special invitation by the Prime Minister of Cameroon, Mr Philemon Yang and was requested to identify potential investors in the Energy, Construction, Agriculture, Retail and Manufacturing sectors for specifically identified opportunities.
As confirmed by the Prime Minister at the meeting, it was agreed to focus on two major opportunities, namely the Retail Centre in Yaounde’ (lake area) and several large scale power generation related projects. In addition, agriculture, low cost housing and manufacturing opportunities were also identified. Given the wide scope of opportunities in these sectors, Cameroon audit partners at accounting firm, Leas Fidex, together with Jeff Blackbeard, have approached various clients from the MSIL client network. For the retail and commercial property developments, a large South African company with strong financial capabilities, as well as technical partners with wide Africa experience, was identified to focus on these opportunities.
Great progress was made by Jeff Blackbeard in his second visit to Cameroon in the week from 23 August to 5 September. A process of preparing a PPP in the energy sector and first level proposals of the refurbishment of several key buildings in Yaounde and Doula on the proposal radar was begun. The projects are all in the multimillion dollar range. The need for funding of the projects is being addressed by the companies themselves or via the funding agencies’ network of banks, private equity funds and private investors working across Africa.
